High + Low

I wanted to share some of my high + lows for the past week. I'm kind of in a emotional/blogging/routine/everything else rut lately, so maybe this will help me get my act together. :-)

Low Points:

-I've been a little sick off and on, just enough to pull me under the weather. I've been sleeping so much I feel like a hibernating bear. My down comforter is just sooo much warmer then the rest of the house!

-My cable bills (3 of them) got lost in the mail and they shut off my internet. Got it straighten out but took a good week before it turned back on!

-Those darlin' puppies of mine ate my brand spanking new computer charger (they chewed the last one up too). Trying to find someone to fix it rather than shilling out the $$ for yet another new one! Until then I'm either on hubby's iPad or at my mom's house borrowing her charger! ^_^

-The cold weather. The cold extremely windy weather. I want Spring already!

-Mopping the living room floor 20 x's a day due to muddy puppy paws. Okay, maybe like 5 x's. But it seems like 20!

High Points:

-Reconnecting with good friends. Living overseas can get super lonely, it's so nice to know I still have people that I can count on even if they live an ocean apart from me! Yay for emails + ichat + Skype + FB messaging. :-)

-Sunshine. I know I complained about the cold weather, but there have been ample amounts of sunshine and that makes me happy. I love feeling the warmth on my face!

-Groggy puppy kisses after they wake up from a long middle of the day nap. It's not fair they can be so evil + adorable at the same time!

-Watching the puppies watch monkey shows on Animal Planet at 4 in the morning when I can't sleep. The puppy head tilts of confusion over monkeys running in slow motion just crack me up.

-Cream cheese frosting. Is sooo good.

-Getting tulips for women's day! Tulips are one of my favorite flowers, they are just so cheery + bright.

-Reading a good book series while huddled next to a warm wood stove. Just finished The River of Time series written by Lisa Tawn Bergren. I highly recommend them! They were enchanting + lovely to read.

So, I suppose my high's overcome the low's. I guess I just had to write it all down to see it that way. Do you ever get in a rut? Maybe it is just winter getting to me. It really is a long season (where I live) and I tend to get these feelings about every year around this time! However, it's good for me to stop for a minute and count up my blessings, and I always see that my life is still pretty grand even if it's not spring yet. :-) I hope you will forgive me for not being a faithful blogger + commenter lately, with the computer + internet issues this week I was a bit absent! I'll try to be better in the week to come. :-) Stay tuned, I'll be posting new Polyvore sets on the blog tomorrow!

Happy Women's Day!

When you move to another country that is foreign to your own, it is amazing the things you find out that you never knew about before! Here in Romania, they celebrate a holiday called International Women's Day, every March on the 8th. If you want to read about all the little details you can find here on Wikipedia. :-) Basically is like Mother's Day, but instead of just honoring mothers, they honor all women! The tradition is to give flowers, or a single bloom, to all the women you know. From your immediate family and friends, to teachers, co-workers, or sometimes even to complete strangers! If you go out on this day, you will find certain stores giving out fresh cut blooms to all of their female customers and even police officers in the city have been know to stop female drivers in traffic to give out flowers! It really is a sweet holiday and one that I think is super special. So today I would like to wish all of my readers (unless you are a guy! sorry, no holiday for you!) a wonderful Women's Day. I don't know about you, but I think that being a girl is a pretty wonderful thing. And how lovely that there is a whole day to celebrate that fact alone! :-) To make it fun, I thought I would share a few things that I LOVE about being a woman.

Today, it is all about food. Without fail, whenever I go to Pinterest I end up hungry. So many delicious photos!! I'm not really a very good cook. I only have a few things that I am actually proud of and can serve with confidence! However, this girl... she loves food. so much. So that is kind of a motivator for me to actually get off of Pinterest and learn how to cook all the delicious things I see! Here are some things that I've been wanting to try!

Among the things I've learned to live without in Romania, refried beans. I love refried beans. They are good on burritos, sandwiches, nachos, in soup, with rice...and just about everything else. But they just don't sell them here. I've tried a few recipes and no luck on one yet! So here is another one I might try. My fingers are crossed! (anyone have a tried + true recipe to send me?)

H&M Spring Line

Ever since H&M came to Romania, I've been a faithful shopper. They have good quality basics, lots of great skirts & dresses, a variety of style to fit different tastes, not to mention their prices are actually pretty great! I took a look at their online store today and thought I'd pass along some of the photos I really liked! Not all of the styles are actual pieces I'd wear or consider to be completely modest, they are just basic inspiration for Spring. :-)

I am liking the look of casual, comfortable, relaxed and almost country feeling style for the spring + summer. Khaki, cargo pockets, screen print vintage tees, crocheted accents, country florals, and natural hair + makeup. I like the effortless, natural, + breezy look, and think it might be a look I'll be going for in the warm season.

This is going to be one of those really random posts in which I ramble on about miscellaneous things! ^_^ My week went pretty well. A little ho-hum if anything! Winter is here again in full force, we got a few batches of fresh snow on the ground along with high winds that make it downright freezing outside. I'm definitely dreaming of Spring these days!!

There is a fantastic event getting ready to start at Bramblewood Fashion on March 4th. There are daily categories and a new era every week. I am so excited, I can't wait to see all the wonderful things Ashley has in store for everyone! So make sure you click the icon above to go check it out for yourself. You won't want to miss it! :-)

I started watching The Firm this week. For those of you who haven't heard about it, it is based on the book by John Grisham about a lawyer and his family. I just recently read the book after watching the trailer for the show, and I enjoyed it a lot! He is a very good writer and his books are great. Plus it gave me a good history on the character before jumping into the show. :-) I'm only about half through the first season but so far I love it! I am usually not a lawyer show kind of girl, court rooms can get boring after awhile. But this show is really interesting and has a great storyline so I am enjoying it a lot! Have you seen The Firm?

I've been loving button down shirts lately. They are sooo comfortable and easy. Plus they layer so nice with cardigans and sweaters when it is chilly! Do you like button down shirts?

Oh, How Pinteresting! {nr. 5}

February is almost over. I find myself dreaming of spring + summer quite often these days. Warm temperatures, blooming flowers, green grass, leaves on the trees again, picnics, iced coffee, long walks, cool breezes. I like warm weather. A lot.

But I also adore winter. It really does have some nice qualities to it. Warm + cozy textures, like sweaters and blankets. Snowflakes dancing down from heaven, covering the earth with a beautiful marshmallow like coating. Savoring large mugs of hot chocolate + coffee. Reading a good book while snuggling next to the fireplace. Cold feet when you slip out of bed in the morning. The lovely silhouette of bare trees against the moody skies above them. Winter can be nice. It's just a little bit long IMO! ^_^ I've been discovering some beautiful photos on Pinterest this week that got me going on the winter thing again. And I'm going to try to stop complaining about the cold and start savoring + enjoying the season I'm in... it will be gone before I know it! :-)

Peach/Coral nail polish has to be in my top favorites. It is so versatile and really feminine!! :-) That owl necklace is pretty amazing too.

This set is so ultra girly + frilly, you can tell that I am spring dreaming. :-) I think my favorite part is that floral clutch, isn't is darling?

Oh, How Pinteresting {nr. 4}

This is the part of winter that I don't really like so much. The snow melts into a big yucky slushy mess. Then it snows more. Then it melts. Then it snows again which makes it a really big mess. The temperatures aren't really stable and neither are my emotions. I guess you could say I get a little bit of seasonal depression! However, I'm lucky, because I have two lively puppies that force me to stay active, and today is actually super sunshiny so I don't even know how I could still be in such a funk. On long winters like this one, I spend wayyyy to much time on Pinterest! There are just so many bright + pretty things to look at. So that is what I am going to share with you today. ^_^ And maybe some of it will actually rub off on my attitude. I could use a little bright + pretty. ^_^

Yes. Life is really beautiful, isn't it? As much as I moan + complain about things, even in the middle of a horrible winter my life is still beautiful. I have a wonderful + loving family, a husband who treats me like a queen, two little rottweiler babies who love me so much that they ignore their food every morning just cause they want to give me kisses + cuddle in my lap, the sunshine pokes her head out a few times a week and warms up my bones, and Jesus is my Saviour + Shelter. What more could I ask for?

Five Things I Love About Romania {Q&A part I}

Lindsay from Trial By Sapphire asked, "What are you top 5 favorite things about living in Romania?" So here are my answers! :-)

1. People stop to smell the roses. As crazy as life can get, I love how Romanians can quickly go into relaxation mode. When warm weather hits, you will see all the roadside fields packed with people picnicking over the weekend. Kids splash in and out of the small rivers, old people sunbathe (proudly in their speedos + bikini's) and keep a close eye on the grill, loud + cheerful manele (a kind of Romanian music) will most likely be blasting from someones car radio, and everyone plays football (soccer)! I love how simple they make it to just go somewhere and let go...let go of the stress, pain, and rush of the everyday life, and just breathe. They know how to relax, in a very simple but effective manner, and that is something I have really come to appreciate about Romania.

2. Living here has taught me to appreciate the small things. I've lived most of my time here with my parents in a very rustic + rural village of about 3000 people. The roads weren't paved until last year, and even now they still have times they can't get out in the winter. Many people still don't have indoor plumbing in the country (including my parents!), but to be honest I'm glad my parents have an outhouse because that is still better than what I've seen others living with (um, nothing?). Running water comes + goes. It can turn off without warning and you might not see it again for up to a week. Even if you do have water, some days it's just a tiny trickle. Country life is still very rustic, some say up to 100 years behind the west. To say the least, living in Romania has taught me to be thankful for things I had no idea I was taking for granted in the USA!

3. I'm continually amazed at the majestic beauty that surrounds me. Okay, to be honest there are some ugly areas of the country. I've seen them. But in my opinion, the beautiful areas far outweigh them! And I am very blessed to be living in the very center of a mountainous + lush part of the country. A short walk outside of my apartment and I'm suddenly faced with massive + jagged peeks covered in fresh snow. Inside those mountain ranges are clear + sparkling lakes, quant little resorts + inns, and the most mysterious forests that you've ever seen. Driving towards my parents home you'll see rolling country hills, with a scattering of sheep + cow herds. Lush farm land and more deep forests. Romania is truly a gorgeous country, and it continues to amaze me that I actually live in the middle of it all!

4. Colorful buildings + detailed architecture. I didn't realize how much I loved this until I went back for a visit in the USA and all the buildings were white, tan, or grey. So blah! In Romania, color can be found everywhere you look. You will find every imaginable shade of green, pink, orange, yellow, + blue. Not to mention there is so much architectural detailing! I love the unique carvings of angels, mystical creatures, flowers, birds, and intricate scrolling. It is so interesting and enchanting. I could spend days exploring my city alone just to see and photograph all of the beautiful buildings!

5. And a kajillion small things that I probably could never entirely list! I love the fashion + personal style in the street, you almost never seen people out in their sweats. I love shopping, I find the best deals and there are sooo many modest skirts to be found! I love hearing the street musicians, and all of the adorable outdoor cafes on cobblestone streets. I love the food here, my mother-in-law makes the best sarmale in the world! ^_^ The people here are strong + determined, and they work hard to support their families. The snowflakes are the biggest I've ever seen, and the parks are full of tulips in the spring. In this country I finally found a place that feels like home to me. I feel safe and feel belonging. I'm so grateful for all of the lessons this place has taught me and all of the beautiful things I've been able to experience.

Cute Spring Earring Picks {via Meli Melo}

There is a little accessory store that I discovered when I moved here to Romania, called Meli Melo. It is cheap, chic, and one of my favorite places to buy earrings. My skin is super sensitive so I can't wear much of rings, or necklaces. However I love bracelets and earrings a ton! I haven't bought earrings in ages, so I've been browsing around for some new pairs to wear when spring hits. In the past I've always been a dangling earring lover, but lately I'm loving studs. They are just so easy and effortless.

Louise + Atena

This is Atena. (Husbands choose the name, he has a fascination with Greek things!) She was the runt of the litter I'm guessing, but overcompensates for it by being ferocious and tough. She is a smart little cookie though and is a quick learner! I love her expressions, and I swear she understands me when I speak sometimes. She is actually pretty affectionate when she gets sleepy and likes to sleep next to me on the couch!

This is Louise! The sweetheart of the two. ^_^ She is super chubby and has a really large head + paws so I think she is a going to be large! She got bite by a big dog a few weeks ago so she is currently rather afraid of other dogs, but I am working with her on trying to get more trust in herself and to realize that not all dogs are mean. :-) She has beautiful eyes and loves to give kisses. She also has a thing for sticking her head in the snow searching for treasures, which kind of reminds me of a baby badger!

They both have improved leaps and bounds when it comes to behaving in the apartment. They are almost house trained and aren't biting so much anymore which is a big yay for me since they have little shark teeth! ouch. So far there are only 2 holes in the couch and they only destroyed 1 plant. ^_^ No, really they are little darlings. They crack me up with their antics and it is really nice to have some noise in the apartment while my husband is at work all day! They love being in the kitchen with me while I am cooking, and usually fall asleep in the corner like the photo above. :-) Hope this post wasn't too boring! I love dogs a lot and I'm so happy to have some in the house again so I wanted to share a few photos and an update. :-)

If you read my previous posts here then I'm sure you know that I'm actually an American living abroad, in the country of Romania. As some of my readers expressed interest, I decided to start blogging more about the country I now live in! It is a country that can't quite be defined in one glance. It is a mixture of old traditions with new western influence. Village life will transport you back to another time, another place. Ancient history + architecture surrounds you everyday. Here, you can find resorts along the seaside, rugged mountains that reach up to heaven, and rivers snaking through lush forests. It is an enchanting country, with a detailed and complicated culture. Living here hasn't been easy, there have been a lot of differences to get adjusted too. Yet despite all the harsh changes, my heart feels at peace here. I feel loved, safe, at home. The happiness I've found in this small country is priceless. I wouldn't trade it for anything!

Now, I need your help! I have so much I could tell you about Romania and my life here. I'm feeling quite at loss at where to begin! Please don't be shy....

My Valentine's Day

1. I wasn't really expecting anything from my husband since Valentine's Day isn't really such a big holiday here. But being the sweetheart he is, he brought home some beautiful roses for me! He really is a gem.

2. He also got me the cutest coffee cup with pigs all over it. Most girls would be slightly offended I'm guessing, but he knows that I just have a soft spot for cute piggies! ^_^

3. I love the little heart garland I made this week! Aren't the colors cute? Not typical red or pink, but I think the blue + white + gold combo is beautiful. :-) I think I'll keep it up for awhile.

4. Toffifee. Probably in the top 5 favorite candies of mine! They were on sale for Valentine's Day so I couldn't help getting a box yesterday morning. They were blissfully delicious until husband came home and asked "did you really eat all these by yourself?" Who... me? ^_^ And I didn't eat all of them. There were like ~~5 left~~ 3 left.

5. I had a slight baking disaster. On a tried and true recipe. On Valentine's Day. Are you kidding? Why do these things happen to me? Okay. Decided to make apple pie since it is husband's favorite dessert in the world. Had a full carton of vanilla bean ice cream in the freezer. Sounds like a plan, right? Maybe not so much. It really went fine, until I made the crust. Ditzy me added hot (?) water to the dough. Whhhattt? Why would I even do that? Everyone knows you use cold!! So yeah. Sticky, flaky, un-rollable pie crust dough. (ha, I also forgot I didn't have a pie pan! I'm a smart one these days.) So I ended up smooshing the dough into muffin tins as well as I could and making mini apple pie cups. They weren't very pretty or impressive, but my husband came home and ate half a dozen, raving about how much he loves apple pie, so I don't think he even noticed anything amiss.

I had planned on having the house spotless, dinner on the table, the puppies fast asleep, and me looking beautiful by the time my husband got home from work. Instead the kitchen was still covered in flour, the puppies were jumping off the walls, dinner wasn't even started, and you do not want to know how awful I looked.

My husband went out and walked the dogs with me. He drew me a bath (with bubbles!) when we got back. He finished washing up the kitchen for me and we made dinner together. Later on, he took me out to see a movie. It was such a nice night. I went to bed feeling so blessed. Life isn't perfect and neither am I. Things rarely go as planned, and sometimes things don't turn out exactly as you had imagined. (I'm still seeing a beautiful, plump, apple pie in my mind.. with heart cut outs on top! lol.) But life isn't always about ideals and perfection. It's about finding joy and beauty in the imperfect things. I'm really blessed to be married to such a good man, who goes with the flow and is flexible to the craziness life brings. I'm glad he still thinks I'm cute when I haven't a spec of makeup on my face and I have flour in my hair. I'm glad he isn't to proud to lend a hand or help out when I have a thousand things to do. I'm glad he watched comedies with me when I know he would rather watch something historical or action filled. He takes such good care of me and always puts me first. In all the little things he does for me every day, I can see how much he loves me. And I just fall deeper in love with him.

Enough mushiness! I really meant to stop at the apple pie part but my fingers just kept typing! Hope I didn't bore anyone. ^_^ Now I'm off to give myself a pedicure, pack for a weekend at my parents, and watch over my little pups. Stay tuned for updated photos of the girlies soon! They are getting so big. ^_^

Camera + Pink Nails

After my "I love wearing pink!" outfit post last week, I came across all these fabulous photos on We Heart It, of pink nails and canon camera. What a perfect combination, right?

I have super ugly hands. Well at least in my opinion. My brother says they resemble a construction workers hands, my husband says they are really soft. I don't know who to believe but my gut tells me my brother is probably closer to the truth of the matter! But nevertheless I love manicures. So much. My hands might be ugly but my nails are usually painted pretty so it kind of makes up for it! Pink is definitely a favorite, it is the ultimate feminine nail polish color.

I love this photo, it is actually from last Summer! I was just walking through the park in the late afternoon, and happen to catch these two couples ahead of me holding hands and linking arms. It was so adorable, I'm glad I had my camera out! :-) It is nice in our world today, to see couples who are still together and still in love. True love does exist.

Honey, I'm Home!

Little things really do make a big difference. When your man comes home from work, here are some little things that you can do to show him you care.

Spritz some perfume on your neck. He might not say anything, but believe me he will notice!

Pick up clutter around the house! No one likes to come home to a cluttered house.

Change into a clean shirt, or put something a little nicer on. This is a reminder for me, at home I have a bad habit of being a bit lazy in my dress. Poor husband!

Light a smell good candle or an oil burner. It is so nice to come into a house that smells like vanilla or fresh bamboo.

No nagging. As much as you want the trash to go out, or how bad your day was, give him a little peace & quiet!

Ask him how his day was.... and really listen!

Prepare something for him to snack on before dinner. My husband tends to get home and be starving, so it is nice and thoughtful if you already have something ready to grab.

Be cheerful and smile! Smiles are nice and happiness is contagious.

Let him relax. Go out of your way to try and make him feel comfortable. But no smothering. Men usually aren't a big fan of this either! :)

Put on a pot of coffee. Especially on cold days during the Winter, my husband really appreciates this!

Season of Pink {polyvore}

I don't know if this set applies more to Valentine's Day or a warm Spring day... all I know is that I for one love the color pink. Not in excess. I'm not the Legally Blonde type of a girl. But subtle pink hints and bold pink pieces are right up my alley! This outfit reminds me of myself and something I would wear, I love when that happens. ^_^ I love wearing full, flirty skirts....it always makes me feel super feminine! And I have to say that those leopard print flats are downright adorable. I really have to get myself a pair sometime.

How We Met {the story of us}

Several of my friends and followers asked me how I met my husband, so I decided to just write it out in a post! Plus it really is a lovely story, I'm so happy to share it with you today! ^_^

It was July of two-thousand-and-ten, my dad told me about a coffee shop that had recently opened in the city. My family knows I am quite the coffee connoisseur...well more like a caffeine addict, but connoisseur sounds better. ^_^ So on a muggy Summer evening, I decided to stop in and see what all the hype was about. I ordered and waited as the Barista with back turned to me prepared my cafe au lait. Looking around, I took in my surroundings. It really was a darling cafe. With color blocked walls, and bar stools surrounding stout tables. Not large or too loud. Cozy, just like a good coffee shop should be. Glass counter tops showcased doughnuts, croissants, small cakes, and fresh bread. The wall behind held a large framed menu and shelves stacked with coffee cups. After a minute, I turned and faced the Barista to grab my cup of coffee and there he was. Sparkling hazel eyes, with such depth and so full of life that I could barely look away. I managed a quick thanks, and he threw a smile back. I found a table and settled in to test the whole reason why I was here. {oh yeah!!} Coffee. I swear, that was the best cup of coffee I'd ever had.

That cafe became my hang out spot. The coffee really was good, and the croissants were to die for! I'd settle in to my favorite table in the corner weekly {ahem, almost daily...} to catch up on reading or scribble in my journal. It was a little haven for me. A quite spot in my day. A place to relax. I continued to see the Barista often. I loved watching him work. His hands were so graceful for a boy. Sliding pastries out of the oven, pouring milk into cappuccinos. He never dropped a tray. He was so darn cute. Dark black hair, a voice like honey. I was head over heels. The thing was, I didn't even know his name. I didn't know anything about him. I am quite the realistic girl, and I knew it wasn't going to go anywhere. He probably wasn't a christian, gosh, I didn't even know if he was single! Surely a hunk like that wasn't alone, come one! He continued to fill my thoughts often. I'd stop by on bad days just hoping to see his face. I was disappointed when he wasn't there. When he smiled at me my heart squealed. When his eyes met mine, I was so intrigued by their depth that I just wanted to know more.

Okay. Whoa. I was really starting to freak myself out. He was a stranger. I didn't even know his name. He probably smiles at everyone I thought, I mean, isn't that part of his job? He probably brings coffee orders over to every girls table! My goodness. It just wasn't reality. Not my reality anyway.

My birthday came in the beginnings of September, I went out with a few friends to get our nails done and on a whim I got a salon blowout as well. Before headed off for pizza and bowling that evening, I wanted to grab a cup of coffee, check my email, and pull my thoughts together. Since ~~I wanted to show off my beautiful and voluminous blown out hair to the sexy Barista that had stolen my heart and could possibly be at work~~ my cafe was the closest I decided to go there. ^_^ No disappointment there. Sure enough he was behind the counter. I ordered my typical and he told me to go take a seat and he'd bring it too me. He even cleared off my favorite table. {awww!} I started writing "thank you for the birthday wish" emails to my friends and family, when he brought my coffee over. His co-workers were all watching me, and he seemed a little nervous and distracted. I finished my emails and he brought another coffee over to my table, this time on the house. He held out his hand and introduced himself as Dan. I told him mine, and he noted that my name was like the character from Shakespeare's "The Tempest." He had no idea, but that little speech stole my heart as I adore Shakespeare so much, he is my favorite author. ^_^ We chatted about religion, mythology, philosophy and out mutual love for dogs. He said he had spoken with my dad in the weeks before and had been invited to come to church, he just needed directions. He wrote down his name and number {on a blue post-it ^_^} and I promised to pass it along to someone that would help. {not before I put it in my phone under important contacts. ya know. just in case I ever needed to ask for coffee advice or something.}

That Sunday he came to church like he said he would. My parents have a village church a long way out in the country, with mostly gypsy members. I was nervous that he wouldn't feel comfortable and figured he probably wouldn't come again. When he showed up that morning he looked as nervous as I felt! I was getting teasing from all of my family and friends, as they knew I had a crush on this guy for a long time. It was embarrassing to say the least. Everything went smoothly. After the service we had a barbecue at my house and I was happy that he decided to stay and was looking more relaxed! If anything I went out of my way to avoid him. I didn't want him to come to church for me, I wanted him to become interested in God first! I was shocked to see him come back again the next week, and my heart leaped for joy when he asked Jesus to be his Saviour on that day. The story goes on from there. It has many ups and downs, and I never knew there could be so many surprises and twists in life! I am ashamed that I didn't have more faith in God, that he can truly change peoples lives and make miracles happen. Our story is one of beauty. A story so cheesy that I wouldn't have ever believed it if it wasn't mine. Sparks {or are they fireworks?} have been flying since that first time he handed me my coffee. I'm now a true believer in that beautiful thing called chemistry & love. I feel like the luckiest girl on earth to be loved by him. He is my half. And I love him with all of my heart.

The Little Things You Do

My husband is the sweetest, really. And since Valentine's Day is 10 days away, I thought I'd share 10 sweet things he does that make me love him more.

1. He draws the best bath. Tons of bubbles and smell good stuff. A clean, fluffy towel. He even brought back shells from the Black Sea when he was out of town for business, to set around the tub since I love the ocean. At the end of a bad day, he knows exactly how to calm me down!

2. He always holds my hand. It's nice to know I'm his girl.

3. He brings home chocolate. My favorite kinds. What girl wouldn't like that... duh. {bonus points for bringing me chocolate croissants, fresh from the bakery, when I'm on my cycle. are you serious? I am definitely keeping that boy.}

4. He is convinced I'm an angel and reminds me frequently. When we were dating, he would notice small white feathers on me occasionally, which he said came from my wings and proved him right. {They were really just from my feather pillows. But I don't mind his theory either!}

5. He gives me his scarf when I forget mine. And he lets me steal his sweaters. Why are boy's sweaters so much softer that ours?

6. He turns up the radio when my favorite songs come on. Even the ones I know he hates. ^_^

7. He has nicknames for me in every language he knows. {um, there are a lot! I kind of married a genius!} And all of them still make me smile.

8. If he sees dirty dishes in the sink, he washes them. And that is probably in the top 3 reasons of why I married him! jk. ^_^ Not really. But to be honest, it is little things like this that make him such a sweetheart. Being considerate is always romantic.

9. When we're relaxing after dinner and sitting on the couch together...he stops flipping channels if he comes across a girly looking movie and asks me if I want to watch it, before heading off to watch his own preference of football or news. ^_^ How sweet is that?

10. He reminds me of all my passions and talents, and pushes me to go chase after my dreams. He always stands by my side, and never lets me go.

I love my husband so much and feel like the most lucky girl in the world to have been blessed with this man. God is so good!

Tell us a little bit about yourself!
My name is Kyla Makay, but I go by Ky, and I am currently ending the first major chapter of my life, high school, and moving on to bigger and better things. I have recently been accepted into my top choice for school, Appalachian State University, and I could not be any happier! I am in love with Jesus, Chocolate, Fun Band-Aids {Hello Kitty anyone?}, Evan Sieges, The Color Yellow {Especially with Gray!}, Bows, The Bible, Mari Potato {My Best Friend,} Leather, Light, Photography, Thrifting, Etsy, Burlap, Worship and Country Music, Dancing, Babies' Squealing Laughter, Alaska, Boots, Bunnies, Lace, App State, The Mountains, Anything Vintage, Stickers, and Blogging!

What inspired you to start blogging?
I first started blogging when I was 14, I know, I started young. I wanted to document my upcoming jaw surgery, which I was going to be undergoing at 16. I wanted to give people who were going to go through the same thing information that can only come from those who have experienced it themselves. I had seen a couple blogs on the topic of double jaw surgery, but none as detailed as I needed… none telling me what it was REALLY going to be like. I was inspired to start blogging to share my experiences with those that it could really help; I wanted to bring hope to those who were uncertain as to whether or not they could handle jaw surgery. The Birds Say, “I Love You” was a branch from my jaw blog, “Makay’s Jaw Journey.” I loved blogging, and I wanted to tell others about my life, and the blessings that God was showering me with. I wanted to document all He was doing- and I wanted to share His love with the world… encouraging others to seek His will for their life.

Are there any tips you'd like to throw out there, to help new bloggers get on their feet?
Be yourself! Blogging should be something you enjoy, not an obligation… sometimes you can become so wrapped up in the amount of comments you receive, your goals, your monthly stats, and even your page views, and in turn you may make the mistake of blogging for everyone but yourself- working to “please the crowd.” Don’t do that. Blog for you.

Tell us about your hobbies. What are you favorite pastimes?
Alright, so I obviously love blogging, but other than that I am absolutely addicted to Pinterest. I love to hike, ice skate {fun fact- I used to figure skate,} read my Bible, shop {hehe,} craft/DIY, dance around my room like a nut… ummm… honestly I love life… I try to live everyday to the fullest, chock-full of my favorite things, I would never want the alternative lifestyle- going through the motions? Gross. Live it up, or die without having lived at all.

I hear you have a special someone in your life now! :) In our modern world, pure relationships are so hard to find. Do you have any encouraging words to say to all of those young ladies out there, holding out for their prince charming?
Oh dear, I have the most incredible man on the entire planet to spend the rest of my life with- I am so blessed. I went through an incredibly difficult, draining, and unhealthy relationship before I made it to Evan though, it was a monstrous mistake that I wish I could take back- but then again- I’m glad it happened. I needed to learn what I was worth- I needed to realize that I could not change anyone… I had to go through the fire to be refined- like gold. It says in 1 Peter 1:6&7:“In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. These have come so that your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may be proved genuine and may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed.” God really put me through the fire- a desert- where I was faced with many trials- learning through them all… and growing closer to God all the while. He gave me a great gift in Evan and his love for me- but it took time, because I had to find myself in God before I could be with someone else… The best advice I can give to all of the girls/women looking for their Prince Charming is- WAIT. Just wait. Dance with your Daddy {God} until He lets the perfect man step in. Don’t settle, because you are afraid of being lonely {God promises in Hebrews 13:4, “I will never leave you; I will never forsake you.”} He will cherish you- and He will provide for you. I would encourage you to write down {as silly as you may feel} a list of qualities {not just physical, but spiritual and emotional} that you want in a future husband--- then STICK to it. Don’t settle for less. L devotions ook for a spiritual leader- someone who will respect and honor you and serve you above all else. Look for a man who will treat you like the treasure you really are! And then pray and wait for God to provide for you. He will. His love never fails. But until that day, dance with Him- bask in His presence- become a better woman- prepare your heart for the man He is molding for you as we speak…

As we close up this interview, would you like to share a verse or something special that has spoken to your heart lately?
I have been doing a study at my church called, “40 Days in the Word” by Rick Warren, with the intention of learning to love and live the Word of God everyday. It is a very practical, yet powerful study that has really touched my heart, and my life. I have always struggled with staying in God’s Word every single day- I have gone through highs and lows, and never really been constant in my devotions. My pastor, Pastor Kendrick, said something last Sunday that I have really been reflecting on and found inspirational. He said,“In Exodus chapter 16 it tells the story of Manna and Quail. The Lord told Moses that He would provide his people with Manna {bread} every day, and that they were to collect what they needed, take it back to their tents, but the Manna would go bad {rot} by the next morning. Moses told the people, but many of them took more than they needed to store {not listening to the Lord’s commands,} but found it to be rotted the next morning. BUT there was new Manna for them to collect for THAT day… You see. Like Manna- the Word of God feeds us, the Bible feeds our soul. Every single day the Lord has Manna for us to fill up with- but the next day the message that we would of gotten from His word will be gone. The good news is He provides fresh spiritual food for us everyday, but the bad news is the message we were supposed to hear yesterday is gone the next day- it has rotted… like the Manna. You have to read the Word of God everyday to receive all that the Lord has for you. When you miss a day of devotions, you are missing what the Lord has to feed you that day…” What he said really spoke to me… it has inspired me to seek out what the Lord has to feed me with His Word each and every day…

I also have been reading Colossians with Evan, and Colossians 3:14 has really spoken to my heart-“And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.”
It has really served as a motivation to live out the love that God calls me to have above everything else- because if you have God’s love- everything else will fall into place.

More About Marie! ^_^

After my last post about coming out of my anonymity, and getting up the courage to show my face :) I thought it was time to share a little bit more about me.

I am an American, but have lived in Romania since I was 15, when my family moved here as missionaries. I fell in love with this beautiful country and it came to feel more like a home to me than any place I had ever lived before. Having decided to stay in Romania after considering college, I figured my chances were slim on ever finding a future mate in a foreign country. I mean, realisticly what were the odds, right? I was simply happy to be where my heart had at last found peace. Plus I still felt young and wasn't looking for, or interested in a relationship at the time! But of course God has his own perfect timing, and in the Summer of 2010 I met the man that I would, a year later, end up marrying. Our story is a beautiful one, I have no doubts that it was writen by the hands of God. I feel so blessed to now be married to such an amazing man. And I feel blessed that I found not only a partner for life, but the love of my life, in a country so far away from my own! I currently still live in Romania with my handsome husband, and with most of my family close by. I live my daily life in a place that feels like a safe and familar haven, yet still surrounded by things that might always feel foreign to me. It isn't easy! I can't lie. There are times I feel isolated and lonely. I get frustrated with the cultural differences. I miss the simpliest and sillest things. But my life here is beautiful and blessed, I really can't complain! Living here to me, has been a gift. And I can't imagine my life differently!

And because ever post is better with some photos....

Did I mention my husband brought home TWO baby Rottweilers? We were supposed to have another home for one right away, but things are going slow and we haven't found a home yet...so they are both with us still. They are a sneaky little team and get into so much trouble but I am starting to really get attached to them both! I don't even know which one I am going to keep now! I really need to get them names soon because I pretty sure they think their names are "girls!!!!!!" :)

I have a long cabinet JUST like this in my kitchen. Instead of two long hard to access shelves, drawers with baskets is so much better! I love this idea. :)

1. Macaroni and Cheese is my cooking specialty. (not the boxed kind! I swear!)

1. Are you a fashion fan and if so, what are your favorite brands and designers? I love fashion! My favorite brands that I buy, are Zara, and H&M. As far as designers, I love Dior, Prada, Kate Spade & Jenny Packham!

2. Why is modesty important to you? Modesty to me is all about respect! It makes me feel safe and honors those I love.

3. What is your favorite thing to take pictures of? People? Landscapes? Macro shots? Old buildings and outdoor cafes.

4. Do you play any instruments? I play acoustic guitar!

5. What's your favorite Period Drama movie? Pride & Prejudice (with Kiera Knightly) and Emma! :)

6. If you could time travel, where would you travel too? The 1960's! Love the hair, fashion, cars, and all that stuff!

I just wanted to thank everyone for the sweet comments that you all left in my last post! I was so nervous about it, but reading the comments made me feel so much better and I'm really happy with the decision I made. It isn't easy to go from anonymous to Arielle, and I'm sure it will take a little time, but I'm really excited about the direction of this blog. It will still have a focus of modest fashion, but I'll now be able to just write me a little more than I did before. And I'm really looking forward to it! Now I can really relax and just blog. ^_^

So thanks again to all of my beautiful readers. I appreciated each and every supportive comment! The photo above was taken at my parents last week. I didn't cut out my head on purpose this time, I just couldn't fit it in the shot with my lens! :)

The Story Behind Marie Loves

I started this blog under an alias that all of you have come to know me by, Marie Danielle. My reason for the alias and certain amount of anonymity, was due to some people in my life at the time who were seeking to cause problems and purposly create conflict. Their favorite way to do this was browsing the internet and twisting my words and actions. I was tired of being hurt and ruined, so I just stopped blogging and pretty much gave up on social networking altogether. After awhile, I decided to start Marie Loves under an alias. I could blog my heart out and just be myself without worrying who would judge my actions or twist my words. It has been a beautiful journey, almost two years now! I have made many friends, and come to love all of my followers so much. I fell in love with blogging even more than I had been before, it has become my creative outlet, a source of motivation and encouragement. The anonymity of it gave me freedom to just be me. And the experience has been so rewarding!

I have given this a lot of thought and decided that I'm going to let go of my anonymous status. It's not easy and I'm more than a little nervous about the reaction I'll get! But I want to be able to share more of my beautiful life with all of my beloved friends and readers by opening up. All of those previous troublemakers are still in my life. Sometimes you have to learn to live with it! I am sure that someday one of them will stumble here upon my blog only to start new rumors and gossip, but I am no longer scared. I am a child of the King and I live my life to glorify Him. No, I am not even close to being perfect! I have a lot of shortcomings and I will continue to recognize that. But you know what, being imperfect doesn't scare me at all. That simply means that I am a work in progress. I probably always will be! :) I will make mistakes, I will fail, disappoint, and make wrong decisions. But that is life. And that is okay! I guess you could say, that I'm finally ready to come out of my shell. :)

I'm still going to go by Marie Danielle online. It's something that I've gotten used to and a part of me I'll always love. Plus, it will be a lot less confusing for all of my blogging pals. ^_^ But in case anyone would like to know, my name is Arielle. And this is me.

I never used to do much for February 14 besides eat chocolate and watch a sappy movie, but now that I'm married I'm hoping to make it a little more special! I'm still torn between going out to dinner at his favorite restaurant since we haven't been out in ages. OR making him a nice, romantic dinner at home since I really haven't done one yet for him. New Addition to the Family.

Well, maybe. We still haven't decided if we are gonna keep her or not, it depends on how this week goes. :) My husband and I have almost always had big dogs around, until we got married last year! It was a big change and I know my husband really misses having a dog around. So when he was offered a free Rottweiler puppy last week (they couldn't afford to keep her), he just couldn't refuse. It's been a lonnng weekend, and believe me, she is not the angel she appears to be! But then we have sweet moments where she lays on my feet, and watches Animal Planet with me until she drifts off to peaceful sleep, and I really hope we'll get to keep her in the family. ^_^

Only then we'll have to pick a name. And it takes me forever to pick dog names out. If I get one set in stone in under 2 weeks, I'm doing good. So, of course I want to ask my readers...

Any name ideas?

She is chubby and rather clumsy. She is very curious and loves to watch people. She is serious and super feisty. Rottweilers are known for being good protectors, very loyal and strong.

For today's interview, I asked Nela from Beloved Star to join us! Nela is the author of two great blogs, both of which I enjoy reading. I love her photo filled posts and all her great recipes. Not to mention she has a beautiful and modest style as well! Alright, on to the interview. I don't think anyone wants to hear me ramble anyways. ^_^

Tell us a little bit about yourself! Well, I'm 18 years old. I'm home-schooled. I'm a morning person. I LOVE freshly-baked cinnamon rolls. I HATE bugs. My favorite season is Fall, and the three top things that I love to do (as of now) is baking, photography, and martial arts.

How did you get into blogging? Is there a special story behind the name? I knew a couple of people who had blogs of their own, so one night I decided to create one for myself. At first it was called "Desiring God's Desires", but then I changed it to "Beloved Star" because that's what my full name "Marianela" means.

If you could make up a short list of "do's & don'ts" to help out new bloggers, what would it say?
Don't: leave comments on peoples blogs saying "I'll follow your blog, if you follow mine."

What are some of your passions & hobbies? I love to blog because I get to write out my thoughts about particular subjects that I find interesting. I love photography because I can to capture an image so that one day I'll look back at it, and be reminded of the fun memories we had. I love to do martial arts because it's great exercise, and helps you learn self-defense. I love to cook and bake because of the process of putting it all together, and getting a delicious result at the end. ;) And last but not least, I love to read a good book whenever I find the time to do so.

I love all of your recipe posts! How did you learn how to cook & bake? What are some of your favorite ingredients to work with? Glad you enjoy them! :) I learned how to cook & bake by following recipes from cookbooks, watching the FoodNetwork channel, and from reading Taste of Home magazines. I guess no one really taught me how to cook. My mom taught me the basics, but that was it. Favorite ingredients? That's kinda hard…hmm…milk, ground beef, baking chocolate, and... oh yeah, peanut butter!

I also love your fashion & style posts. It is refreshing to see modesty promoted in our world today, and done in such a lovely way too! What does modesty mean to you? What do you love most about dressing modestly? Modesty, to me, means is not just about how we dress or what we wear, but how we act as well. I believe that everything we do should be for the glory of God, including the way we dress, and treat other people. What I like most about dressing modestly is that it's possible to do so while looking fashionable, and the fact that it keeps you warm during the winter season! ;)

In closing, is there a verse or something special that has spoken to your heart lately, that you would like to share today?

Of course! Romans 8:28, "And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose." Lately I've been having thoughts about past mistakes I've made in my life, wishing that I could've done better. But I was reminded by this verse that things happen for a reason. And I must respect that reason so that God's glory may get the full benefit.

How to Love pt. II

This is a continuation of my post from yesterday, click here if you didn't get a chance to read it! In this post we're gonna talk about the more practical side of loving others. One of the best ways to show your love, is simply just being there for someone. To stay by their side and have their back. But sometimes it's good to express your love in a special way. By doing this, it not only makes your loved ones feel, well, loved! It also will make you feel great as well. ^_^ To get you started, here are some ways to show your family and friends how much they mean to you!

Write a small note. It can be funny, touching, or just a simple "I love you." Sticky's are great for this since you can, ahem, stick it anywhere! But also consider options like leaving a note in their planner, or a class notebook. Anywhere that you know it will catch their eye and make them smile!

Offer to do a chore or two. Especially the ones they hate doing themselves! Wash their car, finish folding the laundry, or take out the trash. My husband is a sweetheart about this, he knows that I don't like washing dishes since it tends to irritates my skin, so he almost always offers to take over when he catches me at the sink! He's a keeper. ^_^

Give small gifts. A lot of times they are even better than the big ones. ^_^ It could be as simple as buying their favorite candy bar, or maybe getting a box of their favorite tea. The point is that you don't have to spend a lot of money to give a gift. And you certainly don't have to wait for a holiday or special occasion! Unexpected gifts can cheer people up more than you know. And as an extra nice touch, you can add a bow or some curly ribbon to dress it up!

Use your talents. Are you a good artist? Can you bake amazing cookies? Everyone is good at something, use those skills to make something for someone you love. Handmade gifts are really special! It's nice to know someone cared enough about you, to spend their own time making something sweet for you. :)

Send a card. A real card. In this digital age, snail mail is not very popular. But really, who doesn't love getting mail? ^_^ I know this sort of falls into the "write a note" category, but really it is just taking that a step more. Whether you buy, or make it. If it is humorous or sentimental. Sending a card is something really nice to do for the people you love. (P.S. postcards are nice too!)

Make dinner. It can be as simple as your favorite casserole or you can take time out to cook something special. Invite someone over for dinner, and it will make them feel loved! You can add special touches to even the simplest of dinners. Pull out that beautiful china you never use, put some fresh cut flowers on the table, or send them home with a loaf of homemade bread. Taking time out to entertain can be difficult for those that have their hands full, but it's rewarding and a great way to show your love!

These ideas are rather broad, and very simple. I know you have heard them all before, but sometimes it's good to be reminded. Learning something such as how to truly love, and express that love....I have a feeling it takes time! I for one know that I still have so much to learn! How to Love

Look to God. He is our perfect example of unconditional and true love. John 3:16 sums it up the best, "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." Jesus gave his life for me, a mere sinner. Is that not the perfect picture of love?

Put others first. It sounds a lot more simple than it really is! Before you speak, think of who you are talking to. Before you serve yourself, make sure others are okay. Before taking action, consider who will be affected. Put their feelings and well being, before yours.

Give without expectations. Now this one, is pretty hard. When you go out of your way to do something for someone else, it's only natural to be thinking about how they will respond back at you. But really, if you are giving out of true love, stop those expectations. You should give without ulterior motives or to manipulate. Give without expecting anything in return, it's difficult but very rewarding!

Choose to love. Despite what most people think, real love isn't a feeling. It's an action that you must choose, each and every day. One time I heard someone say that really stuck with me, "True love is a mother getting up and making breakfast for the family every morning." And as simple as that sounds, that is love. Love is the simple actions we choose to make every day for those around us. A mother is a perfect example. I can't speak for all the mom's in the world, but my mom is pretty great. I can go to my mom every time I'm sick, and she'll take care of me, even if it's 2 in the morning or she is busy with something else. My mom is always willing to give of herself, in every way she can, without expecting anything in return...and that is true love. It's an action. It's a choice.

The Help {Movie Review}

This movie is set in Mississippi during the 1960's. It's about unlikely friendships developing despite societies rules and morals. It's about courage, doing the right thing, overcoming prejudice and racism when all odds are against you. It is about loyalty and sisterhood, and change.

I saw this movie with my sister and enjoyed it so much! I love the 60's time period in general, the fashion is so lovely. ^_^ The movie was very well done, with beautiful photography and with great actors like Emma Stone and Octavia Spencer. The story line was very interesting and also very eye-opening to the stark racism during that time. It was saddening to see, and convicting about how deep prejudice can go! It was a good reminder to say the least. The courage of the women in this film is very inspiring, at least to me! It had several touching moments, but was also full of humor so it makes for a great mix. I definitely recommend it and will be watching it again myself. It's a DVD I'd love to have on my shelf!

I'm going to be doing a few blogger interviews on Marie Loves, of some young ladies who have blessed my heart through their wonderful blogs. First up, today we have Beth Ann from Genuine Beauty. ^_^

Tell us a little bit about yourself! I am a twenty-two year old Christian blogger (saved by God's grace alone) and the eldest of nine siblings. Ohio was where I was born, Indiana was where I was raised and South Carolina is where we now live. Although now my family and I live right in town, I've lived out in the country (of Indiana) for most of my life.. and yes, I love country music! I'm a homeschooled graduate, working part-time in my Dad's business and have been for about five years now. Now for the less technical side. :) I really enjoy a good book, deep conversations, and writing down my thoughts. I like listening to indie folk-pop music when I want to relax, doing crafty/artsy projects to unwind, and watching the TCM movie channel while folding laundry.

How did you get into blogging? What is the story behind the name of your blog? I started blogging about four years ago. I've always enjoyed interacting with people and speaking out on things that are important to me, a blog seemed to be the best platform for that. The original purpose of Genuine Beauty was to share ideas and personal thoughts on dressing modestly; modesty has always been an important subject to me. Over the years my blog has evolved into a more personal outlet for me to share my daily life, personal style, my faith, and anything that inspires me. I tend to wear my heart on my sleeve and I think it comes out in my articles. :)

The word "genuine" by definition means; authentic, real. I wanted to share with young ladies what true beauty was all about. It doesn't matter how modest you may dress; true, genuine beauty is something that comes from your heart and then overflows into the way you act, talk, think, and dress.

Do you have any tips for new bloggers out there trying to get on their feet? Well, I'm not an expert by any means! But I would say, only blog about what is important to you. If you aren't "feeling" what you write, your readers won't either.
>Read other bloggers' articles and leave them comments, that is one way for you to get your blog's name out there, and a good way to brighten someone's day. :)
>Just a friendly bit of advice? Embedding music players on your blog can be a really fun added feature, but when you set it to auto-play as soon as someone brings up your blog, it can sometimes be a turn-off. Just use with caution. It can be a fun feature on holidays!
>Try to get a feel for what your blog is about and who your audience is. Explaining that in an "about" section of your blog is helpful, that way the potential reader knows at-a-glance what kind of blog they are reading and will be more likely to follow it.

I love your fashion & style posts! How would you describe your personal style? Thank you! :) I guess I would say a mix between bohemian and classic. While I like the care-free look of the flowy fabrics and loose fitting tops that would tend to be more gypsy-like, I also like the classic slim legged pants, ballet flats, and simple tops that are more Audrey Hepburn-ish.

Why do you think modesty is important in today's world? Modesty is important to us as Christians because our bodies are not our own. Romans 12:1 says: "Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God-this is your spiritual act of worship". You don't flauntwhat's not yours. The word modesty means freedom from conceit or vanity. James 4:10 says to "humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up." Modesty goes beyond clothing, as I've said before. Are you humble in your speech and actions, as well as the way you dress? Idon't believe in a hard and fast "this is what you wear and this is what you don't" rulebook, dresses are modest but jeans aren't, or skirts at the ankle are all right, but anything above the knee isn't. Each person has to make their own choices between them and the Lord. Beingmodest in our actions and dress communicate to others that you are a humble person, not out to get attention, but rather to point the attention to God.

My goal (since I was twelve) has been to be content with where I am no matter what the circumstances; lately I've been convicted and reminded of that goal. These past few weeks, I've spent so much wasted time being frustrated with others that I didn't see right away how my own personal attitude was changing -and it wasn't for the better. I realized that I had a haughty spirit, was holding a grudge, and the ill-feelings I was having were affecting my attitude. Humbling? I'd say so. I was wanting my circumstances to be different and was angered that I couldn't seem to change them.

When we don't feel something is really going our way, or think that someone could maybe be a little more friendly than they have been, let's just remember that God is the one in control and if He wants your circumstances to change, He'll change them. But that is up to Him. Not you. Be happy with where you are right now, today, this very minute. That job you're hoping for, the friend you hope to have, the trip you're unsure of? Anything and everything, God has it all in His hands. I think that's a good place for them, don't you?

Dear God, "Let me be a woman, holy through and through, asking for nothing but what God wants to give me, receiving with both hands and with all my heart whatever that is."

The holiday decorations are down.

The tree is in a box in the basement (or crammed on top of the wardrobe if you live in a teensy apartment like yours truly! hehe).

The radio is playing sad songs again about real life.

The mailbox is once again empty.

No more Christmas movies on TV about angels & Santa Clause.

Back to work.

Back to school.

Back to reality.

Oh my. If you are anything like me, most years you get a little bit of what I like to call post-holiday depression. Christmas is so cheery & bright. New Years brings on glitter, dreaming and fresh hope. But about half way through January, things get a little depressing. Winter is here in full force, bringing grey skies & blustery days. I, personally, stay safely inside my home whenever I can, wrapped in fuzzy pajamas, drinking way to much tea and eating way to much chocolate. Ahem, and also possibly spending too much time on Pinterest. But anyways, my point is in all of this, sometime after the holidays, I think we all get a little depressed. Life just seems a little ho-hum and things are looking a little dull. What's a girl to do to get over this bout of short term depression? Well, today, I am here to cheer everyone up. Including myself. This post is probably more for me than anyone to be honest. I always have been one to think out loud!! ^_^ Alright, enough ramblings from this crazy girl, let's get going and find out how to cheer things up when you're feeling down.

DO count your blessings. This one always comes number one! Take a moment to step back and get a good honest look at your life. At first, things look bad. But after a minute of thinking, it actually looks pretty okay. You might be out of a job, struggling with school, or having relationship problems. But everyone can be thankful for something. Maybe you have good health, maybe you have a good family. Maybe you can be thankful for the food on your table, or that roof over your head. It is also good to remember that there is always, always, always, someone out there worse off that you are. Counting your blessings not only makes you more content and thankful, but it really does cheer you up.

DON'T keep listening to sad music. I know, I know. When I'm depressed I like sad music too. But it doesn't really help that much. It just makes a bigger pity party. Go find your favorite playlist from last Summer and turn up the volume! Listen to some happy music and you can't help cheer up.

DON'T stay home. (like I usually do, ahem..) Being alone all the time at home doesn't help depression. Maybe you aren't in the mood to hang out with friends or go to a loud party, that's okay! You can still go out alone, or maybe with a few friends. Go visit your mom. Take a long walk to somewhere new. Grab a book and go get a long cup of coffee somewhere. Getting out for some fresh air is healthy and helpful. I know Winter weather isn't really that fun, especially if you live in a frigid climate like I do. But if you take time to bundle up properly, it really isn't that bad.

DO stay busy. January is a really quiet month for me, there just isn't much going on. And as we all know, when you don't have enough to do, it's hard to keep your spirits up. So if things are slow around your house too, purpose to get busy! Look around and see what needs to be done. Are there any projects you want to complete, that you might not have enough time for later? Try to check something off your bucket list, or maybe try your hand at a new DIY project. Staying busy with something helps you to focus on that, and off your Winter depression!

DO be patient. I know it might be grey outside right now. I know it might be freezing. I know that things might be quiet and little bit lonely. But as Annie used to say, "the sun will come out tomorrow!" And that's the truth! The flowers eventually bloom, things turn green, and the sun still shines through. So keep that in mind and cheer up, knowing that sometimes things take time. Everybody gets depressed sooner or later. Everyone goes through long Winters. Take joy in knowing, that things like being depressed after the holidays don't last forever!

My {2012} Book

I have a cheery little composition book for my own two-thousand-and-twelve.

It's full of quotes that I love. Just a little something to get me going and to inspire my thinking!

But it's also got some heartfelt journaling, with my own thoughts of the year past and what is to come in the future.

Of course I filled up more than one page of doodles and whatnot.

And I filled out page after page of my goals, dreams, to-do lists, wishes, bucket lists and so much more.

Having a notebook like this helps me to focus and figure things out. It helps me make plans and stay organized. When I feel lost or don't know where to start, if I am bored and need ideas to occupy me...I can just flip through my book and there ya go! It is just one of those simple things in my life that I love having around, as it is helpful but also fun. I also want to add this; no, at the end of the year I don't get to check off everything I wrote down in my book. But to be honest I don't really concentrate on just checking things off my list. I just do the best that I can and at the end of the year I'm happy if I just accomplish some of my goals! It is a book of inspiration...not always a book of realities! :) I find that the inspiration does help me and encourage me so much even if I don't get to check off all the items on my lists. I hope this post hasn't been too boring, I just wanted to share my book with you today. ^_^ Now I'd love to hear from my readers....

I've never been a big fan of color blocking and I'm not sure exactly why. I found this dress while browsing online at Monsoon and fell so in love! I really like the colors, they are bold but still classy. I think I could see myself in an outfit like this. :)

{DIY} 32 Reasons Why I ♥ You

I made this cute little booklet for my husband's birthday a little while back and have been meaning to put these pictures up! Better late than never I suppose! :)

I was sick on his birthday this year and never got around to shopping or anything, and therefore felt like the worst wife ever for not getting him a gift! So the night before his birthday I got a brainstorm to make up a little booklet with all (well okay, SOME) of the reasons I love him so much. I'd seen the idea before, using notebooks or a deck of cards but I just used what I had around me. It was very simple and easy (hey! the sick me has virtually zero amount of creative juices!) and just took me about half an hour to complete.

All I used was;

index cards.

red + black construction paper.

heart paper punch.

felt tipped black pen.

hole punch.

this gold ribbon.

Anyways! I know it is simple but I just thought I'd share it because I thought it was rather darling. ^_^ I wasn't expecting hubby to like it much since men usually aren't so mushy, but he loved it and read through it several times! Score!

Winter Colors I Love

Turquoise is one of my favorite colors in the Winter. It's bright and stands out in all the white & grey, and it looks good with red or pink!

Speaking of red, that's another color I love to see in the Winter! It's refreshing and cheery.

Yellow is one of those colors I am picky about. It can't be too pale or too mustard-y. But every once in awhile you come across that perfect shade in-between and it is stunning! I love seeing this color in the Winter! Who doesn't like sunshine? ^_^

I'm so in love with navy. It's just as classy and timeless as black, but it has a certain sparkle to it. I actually love this color most when mixed with black, it is lovely!!

Ughh, rainy and grey Winters aren't really my favorite. They are a little depressing IMO. The forecast has been predicting snow "next week" for the past, well, couple of months. But alas, my balcony is still bare, So I've pretty much given up hope for this year.

But! I scored at H&M and found these darling bright tights for $3 the other day. I love my tights and I'm starting to get quite the collection!

I am just now recovering from a nasty virus that hit me on New Years Day. Doesn't everyone wish they could start off their new year in such a great way? ^_^ Meh. I am doing fine now and hey, I got in lots of What Not To Wear! Gotta love full episodes on YouTube. :)

It was my sweetheart's birthday this past week so we went out to dinner with the family, the food was a-maz-ing. That flat looking pancake thing on my plate is actually potatoes which were to die for! They had cheese, onions, and sadly I can't figure out the rest!! I have to ask next time so I can try to make them at home. ^_^

So, that is pretty much what I've been up to in 2012 so far. Not very exciting, I know! Hehe.

Preparing for 2012

One of my favorite ways to prepare for a new year, is reviewing and writing.

Review.

I look back on the year that has just passed me and review everything that happened. The good and the bad, both the happy and the painful. And then I ask myself these questions.

What did I love most about the past year?

What mistakes did I make?

How can I better improve?

Is there an area of my life that needs some work?

What do I wish I would have done more of?

Are there things that need to be changed?

What were my top priorities?

Write.

Then I pull out my journal and start writing. Goals & dreams for the future, my resolutions & plans. If you want some writing prompts like I usually do :) here are some of mine.

New things I want to try.

Healthy habits I want to start.

Wiser ways to spend my time.

Dinners I want to cook.

Kitchen skills I need to learn.

Photographs I'd like to capture.

Relationships I need to work on.

Things I need to stop doing.

Ways I can give more.

Places I want to go.

Books that need to be read.

Ways to improve my character.

Blogging improvements I can make.

Scripture to memorize.

Home projects to work on.

Fashion trends I want to try.

Ways to simplify my life.

The list truly goes on and on. I'm a bit of a rambler, especially when I write, so it doesn't take me long to make about a hundred lists full of my plans and wishes. :) You don't have to stay structured or keep things into categories, you can just start taking notes if you want! For me, this is one of the best ways to prepare for the new year ahead. It helps to get me focused and think about what needs to be done. And plus, because I write it all down in a journal, I can always go back and see all the lists I wrote to remember all of my goals. I'm sure I'll be sharing a few of my lists on the blog sometime in the future. :) For now, I have some writing to do!

✦ I saw many doctors and went through therapy for an old injury. It was painful and frustrating, and in the end I didn't get a lot of answers.

✦ I welcomed a new little niece into the family. ^_^

✦ I went 10 days without caffeine & thought I was going to die. It was absolutely horrible and something I shall never do again.

✦ I participated in 3 lovely fashion events!

✦ My man put a ring on my finger and forgot to ask me to marry him. Be sure I'll never let him forget it! ^_^

✦ Had lots of family visit! It was wonderful.

✦ Stopped blogging for awhile and proceeded to miss it so much!

✦ Planned my wedding in about two months. It was crazy but it ended up being just fine. :)

✦ Was able to see my two best friends that live across the world from me.

✦ Saw more doctors, still no answers!

✦ Got an iPhone! Well actually, was given one, which is even better!

✦ Swam in the ocean. Got a nice tan. :)

✦ Did I mention that I married the love of my life? hehe.

In Conclusion

It was a year full of changes. A LOT of them. :) But it was beautiful in so many ways and I learned ever so much. I took a long and unannounced blogging break in the middle, which ended up being a regret, I has no idea I'd miss it so much! I'm back for good now and trying to get back onto my blogging feet. I'm not quite at the point where I am perfectly satisfied with it all but hey, it's a work in progress. ^_^ Sometimes I feel pressure to push my blog in one specific direction, but I don't know if it will ever be solely a one topic blog! I simply blog me. What I like, what I do. My life, my love, my journey. I never thought I'd have so many faithful followers or receive the sweet comments that I do! I love my blogging friends and I want to wish you all a happy and blessed new year ahead. May your 2012 be an amazing year, full of adventure, love, happiness and success. I pray that you stay close to Jesus, and continue to have the strength to stand up for what you believe in. Stay thankful, smile often, always dream big, and take nothing for granted!

New Years Eve

Confession: For the most part, I never have plans for New Years Eve. I am worn out from Christmas celebrations and craziness. I don't feel like going out or being around large groups of people. I've had my fill of sweets for the year, and well, by this time I've pretty much ate all the food I could eat! So, instead of going out to see fireworks or having a party with all the people I know... I just stay home. Call me boring, call me grandma. But I like spending my New Years at home! ^_^ This year, my husband & I will be at my parents house over the weekend so my plans are to relax (a.k.a. flannel pajama pants), drink hot chocolate (ok so I still have some room left for chocolate!), watch Meet Me In St. Louis on VHS with my sister (yes I still have a VCR in my old room! ^_^), and possibly give myself a much needed fresh manicure.

I want to wish all of my dear friends and readers a wonderful Christmas today! ^_^ May you be blessed and full of joy as we celebrate the birth of our Saviour Jesus Christ!

I might be taking a few days off blogging to relax and get things back together, the holidays are always so crazy! I hope my followers will understand! It's unbelievable that this year is closing to an end, it went by so fast for me. In a lot of ways I am happy to be starting a new year soon, this past year was a somewhat difficult for me, I'm ready for a fresh start! :) I can't complain to much though because it was also a beautiful year in many ways, the biggest event being my wedding! I never in my wildest dreams thought I'd marry for love, and now I'm happily married to the love of my life. He is my best friend, my half, my soulmate. He treats me gold and I am one lucky girl! I'm really excited to be starting a new life together with him, and I can't wait to see where life will take us next. Okay, blah blah blah! Enough mushy talk. I really started this post just to say Merry Christmas and let you know I'd be gone a couple of days and look how far I rambled on from there! Sorry. Sometimes my mind just runs off! :)

Things To Do On Christmas Day

Take a walk with your sweetheart, family or some friends! Whether it's sunshiny and warm or you are having a white Christmas, it's nice to get some fresh air.

Pull out the board games! My favorite is Monopoly, but no one usually wants to play with me! :) My second favorite is Blokus, super fun!

Do a craft with your siblings. You could make paper snowflakes, personalized ornaments to hang on the tree, or some homemade thank-you cards to send out after the holiday!

Watch a classic Christmas movie. Among my favorites are Charlie Browns Christmas, Meet Me In St. Louis, Elf (!), and It's a Wonderful Life.

Write a long heartfelt letter to someone you haven't talked to in a while.

Start putting together a scrapbook with all the memories from the past year.

Make a snowman. Or snow angels!!

Learn a new card game.

Read the Christmas story. It never gets old!

Call a family member or friend that you haven't seen in a while. Which reminds me, I need to call my grandparents tonight! ^_^

Take a family photo in front of the tree.

Decorate sugar cookies with your family! Even my husband likes doing this with me. ^_^

Overall, make sure you relax, breathe, and enjoy the people around of you. Life is so short and the ones we love won't always be here.

This Christmas I am so thankful to have my family together. We might not be the healthiest, richest, or strongest family in the world. Sometimes we argue and fight, we change and grow, life sometimes tears us apart. But we are family. We always will be. I know that they love me, and I love them with all my heart. I am so very blessed and even with all of our problems and imperfections, I wouldn't change a thing! This Christmas, my only plans thus far is to just have fun together! :) If you have any other ideas to add, or family traditions to share, please leave a comment below! :)

Here are a few sets I made all using the same pair of red flats. I love bold colored shoes and am on the prowl for a cute pair. I'm thinking about red, it's so classic!!

I love this girly dress from Modcloth! With other accents like bows and pearls I think this outfit is perfectly feminine! :)

I adore this top! Black is always classy and the sequined sleeves add so much. And those feather earrings are fabulous. ^_^

How cute is this skirt? I love black skirts because they are so versatile...this one is unique and I'd love to have it in my wardrobe. ^_^

What Christmas Means To Me

Christmas. It's a season, a holiday, a feeling. It's celebrated, commercialized, and planned. Some people try to ignore it altogether, while others devote all their energy into the details. There is Christmas music, Christmas trees, Christmas presents, Christmas parties. Christmas means different things to different people so today I'm going to share with you what Christmas means to me.

Christmas is a reminder. It makes me stop and think about the miracle of baby Jesus. Sent down to earth and born in a stable, and one day to die on a cross for my sins so that I could have eternal life. So that I could be free. A King who chose to be a servant. It's overwhelming to my heart when I think about how blessed we are that Jesus came!

Christmas is magical. There is something in the air that just makes my heart flutter. I love the season. I love the feeling I always get inside. I feel like a child and remember how to dream, and what it's like to believe. To me, the season will always be full of magic!

Christmas is about family. It is so nice to relax and spend time together!! I love cooking with my mom. I love watching western movies with my dad. I love how much I laugh when I'm with my sister. Anytime I get to spend with my family, it's truly wonderful.

Christmas is an opportunity to give. And I love giving, it makes me happy! Whether it's making something with my own hands, surprising a stranger, or being able to help someone with a special need… giving thrills my soul.

And now for the short fluffy list of things I love about Christmas, not so serious, but still things that make the holiday what it is. :)

Christmas lights in a dark room.

Snowflakes dancing down from heaven.

Hot chocolate in my favorite mug.

Watching Charlie Brown over and over again.

The smell of apples and cinnamon.

Christmas is just a few days away now! :) Since it falls on a Sunday, I'm planning on dressing up a bit more that I usually do. Most years I don't really plan for it much I have to admit, I just wear whatever I want. But I figure that it's okay to be festive sometimes too. ^_^

But until I woke up to a white Winter wonderland this morning, it just didn't feel like Christmas! It's amazing how something as simple as snow can change the feeling of a season. I've had my fair share of "green" Christmas's but in my heart I'll always love a white Christmas best!! :)

Red shoes are so classic! They add great pop to any outfit IMO. ^_^

Just For Now

-Oh boy. It's just one of those days. Well actually it has been a few days. The weather has been changing like crazy (50 degree with sunshine on one day...rainy & frigid the next!) and my body hasn't agreed, so once again I'm sick with a cold. And colds make me grumpy. Verrry grumpy. My poor husband. He has been so sweet even though I've been impossible and ridiculous. And my blog. Poor blog. I've been neglecting you quite a lot this week.

-I made a Polyvore set hoping it would get me in the Christmas mood. I really like that sweater up ^ there. It looks so soft and inviting. It didn't really help with the holiday spirit though. Still need to go work on that...

-Thank God for medicated cough drops. Those ones with ibuprofen in them and work wonders when you have throat pain? Whoever came up with those things, they are my hero.

-I should give myself a manicure.... It usually cheers me up, especially when I'm sick and feeling down. It's a funny how such small things can make you feel a little better sometimes huh?

Ahem. I need to stop rambling and whining. I think it's time for a nap. Or at least time for this blog post to end! Apologies to those of you who actually read down this far, and with a little bit of rest and TLC I should be back in no time blogging regularly once again. ^_^

What I Wore - Denim Day

Day 9 of the fashion event. Not too many more days to go! Today is just a casual normal outfit for me. This skirt used to be a favorite of mine, I got so much wear out of it. But now the waistband is kind of stretched out and it does that thing where it sticks out in the back? Aghhh. Annoying to say the least!

(Um, yes that is my wedding dress still hanging up in the bag on the curtain rod where I originally left it! I need to get it cleaned and properly stored someday!)

What I Wore - {Snowflakes}

This is one of my favorite sweaters! My brother bought it for me a few years ago and I've gotten a lot of wear out of it. It's super soft and hasn't lost it's stretch. Plus the sleeves are a bit long and cover my hands about halfway, which I love! My hands are always cold. ^_^

Today's theme was to share a photo of your Christmas tree! I didn't get a good one of my entire tree but I did get a few cute ornament photos. ^_^ My mother-in-law gave me this cute little golden tree ornament (in the photo above) and I love it! Definitely one of the ornaments that will get put on the tree again next year. :)

On another note, I bought Photoshop Elements last week during their Thanksgiving sale, and I am having fun exploring it! I used CS3 for a long time but I switched computers, upgraded systems, and blah blah blah and had to buy something new. I love the full Photoshop and was used to using it but Elements was much more affordable. ^_^ Now I just have to figure out how it works! I'm a creature of habit so usually I hate having to get used to new things! But I'm happy to have a good editing program again and that's what matters. :) Enough ramblings from me, it is just one of those days. Ha!

Awesome cozy sweater tights - borrowed from sister! ^_^

Today's theme is "wear a skirt." Not to hard for me since I mostly wear skirts anyway! I do wear jeans, especially when it is cold and I'm out and about, but I still find skirts to be comfortable and easy so I mostly wear skirts! ^_^

This is another skirt I got this Summer, it was marked crazy low on clearance and it fit really well so I went for it. And now I am glad I did! Sometimes full skirts can be hard (at least for me!) to style, even though I'm thin, sometimes I feel like they drown me. So usually I try to just pair my full skirts with a tighter and more fitter top or a belt and it works wonderfully! And this skirt... it has pockets. Why are pockets so awesome? I love pockets! ;D

The strange looking blob on my neck.. those are my wedding rings! Sorry. My fingers and hands have been a little sensitive lately so sometimes I end up putting them on a chain to hang on my neck! :)

Who says you can't wear white in the Winter? I bought this skirt in late Summer so I was sad to not get a lot of wear out of it. But I tried wearing it with tights and hey, it doesn't look half bad! What do you think? ^_^

I love this cozy cardigan, I've had it for ages. And the dark tan top is also a favorite of mine, it has soft material and a ruffled hem! What's not to love?

Sorry about my crooked necklace, I had no idea until I put it on my computer. Oops!

What I Wore - {Sunday Morning}

The fourth day of Natasha's fashion event! I haven't done outfit posts in forever so this has been a good kickstart to get me back in the game again. :) This is what I wore to church this morning, I found this skirt in the back of my closet...I hadn't worn it in ages but I am glad I gave it another chance.

Today's theme was to wear you hair crimped or curly.... Well, my hair is naturally ALWAYS curly. LoL! So no special theme for me. ;D I forgot to get a photo though, I'm sorry! I just had it pulled back in a simple ponytail.

Isn't this necklace cute? I borrowed from my sister. I love jewelry with birds on it. ^_^

- I redesigned my blog again today. I just wasn't happy with how it looked before! I love yellow and grey together and chevron stripes are always classic. So what do you think about it? Is it better now or do you think it still needs some work?

- I tried a new recipe and made these sugar cookies today. *heavenly* They really turned out good even though I didn't make the frosting. I love having good cookie recipes on hand that are easy and quick! I still will use my old faithful cutout cookie recipe, but this one is great when I'm not in the mood for frosting! ^_^

- I'm enjoying Natasha's modest fashion event this week! I wasn't able to link up today but be sure to go check out the fun for yourself and feel free to join in with us anytime. We still have several days to go!

- God answered a lot of my prayers this week and I feel overwhelmingly blessed. My entire family has had a bit of a rough year and I'm glad that it looks like it we will be able to start a new year soon with all of those things behind us! I am so glad for God's mercy on me and those around me. He has blessed us a lot and I pray that we'll all continue to have faith in Him!

What I Wore - Black & Brown.

Day 2 of Natasha's modest fashion event! Today I'm at my parents so thanks to my sister for taking a few pictures for me. ^_^ A lot of people don't think black and brown go together but I disagree! I love the color combination and I wear this outfit often. Sorry for the lack of shoes! I am one of those people who only wear shoes when I go outside, even then I don't always. Hehe I love this skirt so much, it is a versatile color and can be worn year around. Not to mention I just like ruffles a lot anyways. :)

Natasha has a theme going on for every day of the event and today we are supposed to share a family tradition for the holidays. I think my only tradition is that I like watching Charlie Brown's Christmas when we put up the tree. ^_^ It's just a classic!

My outfit for today is pretty typical for me. I love pencil skirts and wear them the most! I was given some money to spend on something for me and found this cute shirt on sale a few weeks ago. I love plaid and this one is perfect. :) I have to admit that the belt didn't last long, I ended up taking it off right after the photos!! Sometimes comfort wins. ;D And just as a side note, I'm not used to taken outfit photos in my house yet so you will probably see me move around a little bit this week!! :)

Thanksgiving Challenge {day's 25-30}

Today is the last day of the Thanksgiving challenge I've been participating in. It has been a blessing and encouragement to my heart and I want to send out a big and special thank you to Rachel for hosting this lovely event. :)

{day 25} I'm thankful for God's love in my life. It will always amaze me how much he loves such a girl like me!!

{day 26} I'm thankful for God always providing my every need! God is very faithful, we must only trust fully in his strength!!

{day 27} My health. It could be so much worse! I'm so thankful I can walk, so thankful that I can use my hands, and so thankful to be able to see!!

{day 28} Blogging. I'm thankful for blogging. It's fun, it's relaxing. I get to know my friends better and make new ones! I'm glad I've had the opportunity to blog. :)

{day 29} My husband's new job. He was out of work for a while, but then God really opened a big door for him and he was finally able to get a good job in the field that he loves most! It's a blessing to see him happy and working with what he loves. :)

{day 30} I'm thankful for this life. This crazy life. It can be so scary, very difficult and often confusing. But I am so blessed to be alive! To have been given this wonderful gift of life. My biggest wish is that at the end of my days I'll be able to look back with happiness and contentment, knowing that I gave my all, lived the best I could and loved with all my heart!!

D-I-Y Christmas {day 2}

For the second day of this years D-I-Y Christmas projects, we have handmade card sets! Making handmade cards is one of my favorite crafty things to do. There is a lot of inspiration out there and so many cute things to buy. It can be as simple or complicated as you want to make it! :) In the past I've just used paper and supplies I've collected individually, but lately I've put to good use some cute card making kits my mom bought for me! They aren't horribly expensive and it's great to have so many papers and embellishments that you can mix and match for a set of cards. I've always been a lover of stationary and I'm sure I'm not the only one out there! This would be a great little gift for a mom, teacher, or another special lady in your life! :)

I'm posting a tutorial as it doesn't really need one! Beyond your basic papers and embellishments, all you will need that I recommend is:

scissors

hole punch

glue

adhesive foam squares

double sided tape squares

ruler (in case you need to line things up or center things!)

I'm giving this set to my Sister-in-law as she likes flowers and bright colors! :)

I thought it was especially cheery and cute!

You can package it many ways, but I usually just stack them with their envelopes and tie a little ribbon around to keep them all together! This is the only ribbon I had around the house today (:p) but it would probably look a lot cuter with some curling ribbons or a thicker ribbon and a bow! :)

Christmas Shopping 101 {a repost!}

{I wrote this last year and thought I'd post it again and maybe share some helpful tips that have helped me!!}

Ohhh, it's that time of the year again! Employees are up on ladders hanging decorations while you hear the first strains of Christmas music playing on the radio. You pass by aisles now full of shiny ornaments and colorful toys. And if you are anything remotely like me... you're about dying to start your Christmas shopping! Ahem, actually I feel the urge to start xmas shopping the first time I pull on my boots for the season. hehe. However most people aren't such holiday lovers I suppose. ^_^ Wow, I'm really rambling today aren't I? I think someone had a little too much caffeine this morning. ^_^ So to get down to the point...as the holiday's grow closer, naturally we start to shop for all those fantastic gifts we'll be giving on December 25th. Here are some tips that I personally practice that I wanted to share and hope can be a help. :) Let's get started!

- Make your lists. Who do you need to buy for? Weed through and separate into groups. I personally sort my Christmas peeps into 4 sets; a) people who get cards. b) people who get cookies (or something like that). c) friends to buy for. d) family to buy for.

- It's a good idea to set a budget! It doesn't have to be solid, but at least set a general limit that you allow yourself to spend. Christmas is one of the worst times that people blow too much money! It is far to easy and ... ok it like happens to me EVERY YEAR. But I still try to keep a budget. :)

- Pay attention to the deals going on around you!! Get Sunday papers and look online for printable coupons. If you can save even a small percent it is usually worth it. You'd be surprised how much you will save in the long run.

- Try to put a lot of thought into what you would like to get people. I have a really hard time with this as I just like to go out and start shopping and see what catches my eye! But I think that's why I sometimes get carried away. And never buy a gift simply because you have to buy a gift. Put some thought into it and try to get people something they will really love or will be able to use! Not everyone wants a lavender scented bath set, and I'm guessing most guys out there really don't want or need another tie. (*raises hand* yeah I'm definitely guilty of this one... but hey, guys are hard to shop for!) Remember, a meaningful gift is always so much more special!

- Look at your homemade gift options. DIY is all the rage and these days it's pretty easy. Supplies are reasonably priced and tutorials can be found all over the web! Check out websites like Better Home & Gardens and Martha Stewart, and cruise around the DIY blog world to find some great projects. From hand made jewelry, bath salts & lip balm, to hand sewn felt toys and stationary sets... there are some really awesome and surprisingly easy handmade gifts to be given this season. Sure it might require a bit more of your time, but isn't that what makes homemade stuff so much better? Stay tuned... I'm sure I'll be sharing some of my holiday DIY projects on here soon!

- Now it seems there are usually two ways that people Christmas shop. Space it out throughout the next several weeks or go out and conquer it all at once! Hmm, personally I kind of do a bit of both. When it comes to candy, gift wrap, and other "grocery store" items I try to space it out and buy a little every week. But I like to make my mall and shopping center trips well worth it and try to get a lot checked off! So usually I plan my "big" shopping day in advance. That way I can get any coupons I think I might use ahead of time not to mention be able to set aside the funds needed! :)

- Ready for that big shopping day? Here are some tips that help me survive;

1) Don't dress too warm! Definitely make sure not to bring your coat in the mall, it's better to leave it in the car because you usually end up just lugging it around and that's no fun. I try to layer and dress a little bit lighter than I normally would in the Winter. So no wool tights for this girl!

2) Wear comfy shoes. I know you know this already. But it just had to be said. ^_^ My favorite picks are my Etnie sneakers and plain black flats. They never let me down!

3) Stay hydrated! I try to keep a drink handy at all times when I shop. It has duel purposes, fuel my thirst and remind me to take 10...when my drink is out I know it's time for a break and a refill! Grab a snack. Rest my feet. Make some phone calls. Check to see how my list is coming... breaks are important. Be sure to take a few!

4) Be patient. Breathe. The lines are going to be long, employees will be grouchy, little kids will scream and run around. It's just how it is! It can all add up a being a headache but just breathe through it and try to keep a smile on your face. :)

5) Take your time. Rushed shopping is never ever a good thing, if you are having second thoughts about something don't feel pressure! Take some time to think about it. You can always come back later.

- One of the best ways I keep organized during the holidays is to keep a notebook in my bag all the time! I write all of my holiday lists in there (there are tons of them.. i love lists.. hehe), keep track of what I buy and what still needs to be done. It really helps keep me on the right track and stay focused.

It's The Most Wonderful Time

It's that time of the year again. Usually the Autumn drags quite slow for me but this year it flew by. I can hardly believe Thanksgiving is over! I had a lovely holiday, spent relaxed with my family. I felt very blessed to be surrounded by those I love! :)

Now that Autumn is official over (in my mind at least! that's just how my mind works hehe!), I am moving on to thinking about Christmas. This year will be a little bit different for me, as I'm married! But I am excited about us getting our first tree, starting our own ornament collection and making new Christmas traditions together. :) We'll still be going my parents on Christmas Day and I get to help set up the tree this weekend so I am happy they still let me be involved! ^_^

Thanksgiving Challenge {Today}

As some of you might remember, I have been participating in Rachel's 30 days of thankfulness challenge. It has been a blessing to me and a good reminder every time I sit down to write a post that it is so important to be thankful. It is so healthy and encouraging. I always feel 100x's better after writing about what I am thankful for! The challenge isn't over yet, we still have a few more days left, so if you want to join in it isn't too late! :) Usually I write one point of thankfulness per day, but as today is special I'm going to just write a simple list of everything on my heart this morning. :) Happy Thanksgiving!!

D-I-Y Christmas {day 1}

Throughout the next week or so I'm going to be sharing 7 D-I-Y projects that I am working on for Christmas. Most of them are small, and would make good little stocking stuffers! I haven't always been the best explainer but hopefully with the help of the pictures you will be able to understand the instructions. ^_^

First up, paper covered clothespins! Everyone uses clothespins. I use them mostly in the kitchen for holding bags shut or closing a package. :) And after seeing how other people made their own cute versions of clothespins using fabric, modpodge, or glitter....I thought I'd try it myself with paper. Why use plain old wooden ones when you could have some in any color or print you'd like?

All you will need is;

wooden clothespins.

scissors.

glue. (i used a strong all purpose glue.)

scrapbooking paper of your choosing.

{hot chocolate is optional. ^_^}

First, I cut out a little guide on a piece of scrap paper I have laying around (in my case, an old Sephora coupon that was on my coffee table!!) so I make sure I cut out the right size. Then, using my guide I cut out however many pieces of scrapbooking paper that I need. Two for each clothespin.

Then simply rub glue evenly onto your clothespins and add the paper. It can slid around a little at first so make sure you move it to exactly where you want it! :)

Ta da! Yes. They really are that simple to make. And much more cuter than how they were in their plain wooden state, don't you think? ^_^

As another option, you can add a magnet on the back! This way you can use it on the fridge to hold notes, recipes or photos. :) For this set, I also made a little card out of thicker paper to display them on when I give them as a gift.

And there you go. Simple, easy, and very practical!

Making a House a Home.

Something about having plants in the house is so nice. I've moved around a lot in my life, but my mom always had plants and somehow that little gesture made it feel more like home!

And now here I am with my own little apartment. It still doesn't quite feel like home to me. I'm working on it! But I do have a nice little collection of plants already....

...And I must admit that hubby takes care of them more than I do. I am not very good with plants and flowers indoors, unless you want them to die, then I am quite good! ;D

Anyway. I don't know why, but having plants in the house always made it feel more like a home and less like a house.

Thanksgiving Challenge {Love}

I'm thankful for him. The man who stole my heart and swept me off my feet. It all happened when I was least expecting it, in fact I tried my hardest to fight it. It has always been hard for me to just let go... But finally I did. I gave it to God. I let life take her beautiful course and I am so glad I did! Looking back now, I could kick myself for not having more faith. For not trusting God like I should have. He blessed us beyond what we deserved...well I don't know what he deserved but I definitely know that I don't deserve him! :) So here we are now, further down this road of adventure called life. It's crazy, beautiful, and sometimes it's hard. But we are in it together and to me that means the world.

I'm thankful for his love in my life. I still can't believe he loves me... ^_^

I'm thankful that he takes such good care of me. He cooks dinner for me on the days that he is off work. He makes my cup of tea in the morning, just how I like it! He gives me his jacket before I ever have to tell him I'm cold. He really spoils me!

I'm thankful that God brought us together. With all the millions of people in our world, I feel privileged that I got to meet him. It was definitely a God thing. :)

And yes, that is us up there. ^_^ I love this picture a lot....we met over coffee so maybe that is why I like it so much!
